12 DIYs of Christmas ~ Day 3 ~ DIY Kate Spade Inspired Gem Coasters

Happy Monday, lovelies!  Today's DIY is something that's on everyone's gift guide.  And although they come in at only $20, I'm still not about to drop $20 on paper coasters.  So without further ado, I give you my DIY Kate Spade Inspired Gem Coasters.  {Steps after the jump}

You'll need: Cardboard (I used the outer box from my Birchbox Home box), gem colored paint, white paint, paper plate (for your paint), brush, scissors, metallic sharpie, sketch of your gem done in pencil, and mod podge.

Cut out around your stencil, leaving extra room.  Cut this same size out of the cardboard, I made four coasters, make however many you'd like :)

If your cardboard is colored, paint it white so the gem colors won't be altered.  This acts as a primer.

Paint each coaster the desired color, let dry thoroughly.

Now's time to burnish our image onto the coaster.  Place the penciled side down onto the coaster and rub thoroughly.

Lift the corners to make sure your image has transferred before fully removing the paper.

This is what you should have when you're done.

Cut out the gem shape.

Now trace all the lines using your metallic sharpie.

Finally, coat the coasters with a layer of Mod Podge.

That's it!  Using materials I had on hand, I paid nothing for these, and they look every bit as good as the inspiration piece!  Now get crafting, and give these to everyone on your gift list!

xx
