Shibori Outdoor Pillows #TieDyeYourSummer

Hi lovelies!  Today I've got a fun DIY for you created in partnership with i Love to Create and The BluePrint Social #TieDyeYourSummer.  Of course, all opinions are mine and I love how easy ILTC's tie dye kits are to use!  I decided to play around with creating a shibori print using Tulip's easy pour bottles, some t-shirts, and plastic bags to make these outdoor pillows!  It's time to tie dye your summer, and Tulip has everything you need to make it easier so you can spend more time together with your family and friends!  {Click for the how-to!}

You'll need:
  • 2 white t-shirts (use some old ones that are stained!)
  • Blue Tulip easy pour dye (the gloves and plastic tarp come in the kit!)
  • Plastic wrap or bags

Fold the length of your t-shirt like an accordion, as above.

Now you can do triangles or squares, but make fold it like an accordion.

Squirt your dye onto the folded areas, saturating it really good on all folds on all sides.  One bottle was exactly enough for the 2 shirts.  Keeping them folded, wrap them in plastic wrap (or a plastic bag like I did) according to the directions, and let it sit for 6-8 hours.

When done, rinse and dry and look at the pretty patterns!

Turn the shirts inside out and sew across from underarm to underarm.  I used a zigzag stitch and went over it twice.

Line up the bottom hem and sew over the stitches that are already there to make things easier.  Leave about 4 inches on one side open.

Cut just above the line you made across the shirt.

Turn the pillow inside out.

Gather your plastic shopping bags you've been hoarding.  I used about 50 bags for each pillow, and have been saving my bags for quite some time now!

Stuffed!  Now sew the opening shut and you're done!

Et voila! So easy, right?  The jersey fabric with the plastic bag stuffing is perfect for outdoors; you don't have to worry about the elements damaging them!  They are so unique and I really love how the pattern came out so different on each, but similar as well.  The dyes are SO easy to use.  Just add water and shake, and that's it!  They're permanent and colorfast, so the color won't fade in the wash.  The kids love having these crinkly sounding pillows out on our patio now, and it's slowly becoming more comfy out there!
