My First (& Last) BeautyBar Sample Society Box ~ Unwrapped + Horrible Customer Service

Hi lovelies!  I recently received a promo code to try out BeautyBar.com's Sample Society, in which $15 gets you 5 deluxe sized samples + a mini-mag from Allure.  I really like that your $15 box cost also can be redeemed toward a $50 purchase from that month's full sized products.  So I figured I'd try it out!  {Click to see what I got!}

Here's what I got!  You'll notice there's only 4 items, and my card listed 5 that I was supposed to get.  Well I emailed customer service to let them know, and see what they'd do about it.  I received a response apologizing but saying they weren't going to do anything about it, and that I didn't pay for the box anyways.  My reaction?  Horrible customer service!  So I wanted to share an honest review because I really love the box and its contents, but does it make up for the sub-par customer service?

Illume Balsam & Cedar Metallic Tin Candle
You guys, this smells so friggen good.  It's Christmas in a candle!  Obsessed with this scent.  Utterly obsessed.  {Retail Value ~ $2.81}

Jane Iredale Lip Drink Lip Balm
This is so adorable isn't it?  The citrus scent is amazing and it's super hydrating and nourishing.  {Retail Value ~ $3}

Annick Goutal Eau d'Hadrien Eau de Toilette
This perfume is so yummy, it's clean and feminine and is so happy!  {Retail Value $3.81}

Borghese Splendore Brightening Makeup
This is a brilliant luminizer and it blends right in to any skin tone.  I like it especially under a BB cream to provide a subtle glow.  It's great as a highlighter as well! {Retail Value ~ $30}

So I came up with a total value of $39.62 for just these four items.  The Borghese is a full sized product which comprises the majority of the value.  In all, it's a great box, these are some fab products.  But the ridiculous customer service has completely soured me on this brand, and needless to say, I definitely won't be subscribing to this service.

What do you think?  Does poor customer service turn you away from a brand?

  1. You always hear that for the one person who complains there are 99 who don't. And some put it as high as 999 don't complain for the 1 person who does. Bad customer service just one time can make me boycott a brand FOREVER. And it's not just me who will boycott the brand because I will tell my friends and they will tell their friends. Not smart for this company to do this to you at all - and you being a blogger can reach so many people.

    1. Precisely! I was torn whether or not to even post about this, because I try so many products/brands/etc that I don't care for and don't blog about. But I felt that they were so rude that I wanted to share my experience in case others out there are curious about this company. My SEO for subscription boxes is very high, and my reviews are some of my most popular posts.
      Companies need to realize that they should not piss off bloggers because we will share our experiences, and people that are curious about a brand may google said brand, and SEO takes care of the rest.

  2. I totally agree with you. Bad customer service is just that...bad! There are many other companies out there selling the same things, they should go above and beyond to make you happy. I'm glad you blogged about it. Sorry you had a bad experience with them. Hopefully your post will save someone else the same frustration.
