We got 'Licensed to Spill' with Mohawk Flooring SmartStrand Carpeting

Hi lovelies!  It's no secret that I have two kiddos, luckily for me they are older now (my youngest is now 8 and my oldest will be 12 in about 2 weeks!) but that doesn't mean they still don't make messes!  The condo I live in includes its original carpeting (I think it's at least 20 years old!) and is in a not so great state... if only I could get my landlord to put this stuff in!

I first learned about Mohawk Flooring's Smartstrand Stain Resistant Carpet (they're the world's largest flooring manufacturer!) at this weekend's Taste of Colorado in Downtown Denver.  Sam's No. 3. was there serving (free!) breakfast burritos with green chili sauce in the License to Spill booth.  More on that in a bit.

My lucky little dude got to make a mess!

He was armed with squirt bottles of blue gatorade, soy sauce, and red wine and told to go to town on the carpet square.  And he made quite the mess!  {Click to keep reading!}

He clearly, really enjoyed it!

But his mess was no match for this carpet.  Mohawk's SmartStrand has permanent stain resistance that will never wear off.  Instead of its stain resistance being topically applied to the carpet fibers (as most stain resistant carpets), it's actually built into the carpeting itself.  What does this mean?  It means that you don't need to deal with stains!  They'll lift right out with some water, and maybe a little dish soap and elbow grease on set in stains (more on that in a sec!).

After squirting the carpet square with plain old water for about 5-10 seconds (no rubbing or anything!), it was pretty much as good as new!

Look at the pretty colors and textures available!  I love the zebra-print texture the best!

Remember those green chili topped breakfast burritos?  Well Chuck Nice (from HGTV’s Home Strange Home and VH1's Best Week Ever) was there filming with the BetterTV crew, and he smushed one of those messy burritos into the carpet.  After shaking the excess into the trash, all it took was a rag, a drop of dish soap and a tiny bit of elbow grease, and you can see the carpet was good as new!

I was sent home with a few squares to test out myself, so I got to work with my nemesis: ketchup.

Not only did I squirt ketchup all over it, I also used a spoon to really smush it down in there, and then left it to dry and cake on there real good.

I just grabbed a wet dishrag and scrubbed.

After about 30 seconds, this was the result.  Crazy right?  But there's still some deep down in there.

And this is after scrubbing with the same wet dishrag but this time with a little bit of dish soap.  Good as new!  I'm sold!

We had so much fun, the folks from Mohawk are so sweet and getting our License to Spill was way fun for the kiddos!  Make sure to check out when the tour will be making a stop in your hometown!
