DIY ~ Shell Bracelets

Hi lovelies!  As I promised when I made my DIY Aurelie Bidermann inspired shell necklace, I have some DIYs to do with the remaining shells off of that one shell lei.  So we're going to make an Aurelie Bidermann inspired bracelet (which goes great with the necklace!) and a cute little shell bracelet (I made two and always have one on!)  {Click for the how-to!}

DIY Pearl Footed Shell Dish

Hi lovelies!  Today's DIY is a super simple, less than 5 minute one; the best, right?  I've had this gorgeous abalone shell I picked up in Sunset Beach last summer at a shop and wanted to make a dish out of it, but wasn't quite sure how to accomplish that.  While perusing One Kings Lane, I stumbled upon this gem (need an invite?  I'd love it if you used my referral link: )  While I wasn't about to add the silver trim (you totally could!), I thought that the freshwater pearl feet were absolutely brilliant!  {Click to keep reading!}

DIY ~ Faux Apothecary Jars

Hi lovelies!  As promised, a new DIY each day this week!  Today's came to me when I was trying to figure out what to do with the shells we collected at Huntington Beach.  A short trip to the dollar store and $4 later, I had what I needed!  This is a great way to store jewelry, cottonballs and q-tips, anything! {Steps, after the jump}

DIY ~ Nautical Shell Anchor Necklace

Hi lovelies!  I hope you had a fabulous weekend!  I did a bit of crafting, so be prepared for some awesome new projects!  This one is a great take on the nautical trend, and this can be a great way to do something with your souvenir shell you found on the beach! {More after the break}

Decor DIY ~ Colorful Knick Knacks

Hiya lovelies!  Today I thought I'd share a simple and eye-catching decor DIY.  It's a great way to add a punch of color to any room's decor.  Here's what you'll need:

I picked up the shells at the thrift store and the owls at Target.  I chose a bright red and a light teal spraypaint.  Follow the directions and spray until you get the desired coverage (I did three coats, letting each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next).

The lovely shells now grace my mantel.

Which perfectly complement my porcelain sand castle :)

And my owls look lovely guarding my TV.  I bought the purple glass one at TJ Maxx.

This could be done on pretty much anything.  Pine cones, thrifted children's toys, whatever your heart desires!

Decor DIY ~ Framed Shell Art

Happy hump day!  Today I've got a cute and easy decor diy for ya!  I've confessed my love of shells before, and my condo is full of shells!  How cute is this framed shell?  Most shells end up on a surface, a shelf, a table, etc.  I wanted to find a way to hang up a shell, but not just gluing a hook to the back of it.  When this picture frame broke, I knew what to do. 

All you'll need, plus some E6000 glue, not pictured.

The best part about this frame was the particle board because I could spray paint it!  I really like how the paint didn't adhere to all of the wood, even after several coats.  It gives it a more rugged/rustic look.

When the paint has fully dried, reassemble the frame.

Using E6000 glue, affix the shell to the center of the frame.  Let dry overnight.

So pretty!

Here's the finished product, proudly on display above my mantel.  Don't you love the framed palm tree pic too?  That was taken by the lovely Megan, of The Frugalista Diaries fame.  This goes perfect with my beachy decor and best yet, cost absolutely nothing!

DIY: Shell Heart Ring

I've had this shell heart for a long time now, I think I got it when I was a kid.  I had the brilliant idea last night to make something with it, and I easily made a ring!  This project literally took about 30 seconds!

All you need: Ring blank, E-6000 glue, and a shell heart or whatever your heart desires :)

Apply a drop of glue to the ring blank and securely press the heart onto it.  Let dry overnight.

And then wear it!  This is an easy peasy and beautiful DIY, I hope you love it!

30 Days of DIY: Day 21 ~ Tropical Shells!

As many of you know, I'm a tropical gal at heart, although I'm stuck in CO.  My living room is filled with jars and vases full of shells.  I spied a bag of these huge shells at the thrift store for $2 and wanted to make some more wall art!

All you need other than the shells at this point is a paintbrush, some newspaper, and acrylic paints.

I chose four colors that reminded me of the tropical oasis that was our beach bungalow in FL.

I applied two thick coats to each shell and let them dry overnight.

Next step is how to hang these suckers up!  If you're a loyal follower, you know I'm always making wall art out of some pretty random stuff and need to improvise on how to hang them up.  So I used my trusty floral wire, wire cutters, and E-6000.  Cut the desired length of wire and glue down the ends generously.  Let the glue dry overnight.

Here's the set of them!

And I hung them up on the little partial top ceiling thingy between the living room and kitchen.  The colors are much more vibrant than pictured here.

Bright!

And there you have it!  A little bit of the tropics here in CO.  I hope you all love this and it inspires you!

30 Days of DIY: Day 14 ~ Pom Pom n Shell Necklaces

My mom brought back these puka shell necklaces from Hawaii a few years ago.  I've never worn them but always intended to do something with them.  I saw some mini pom pom trim at Joann's and immediately knew what to do.

Materials:

• Puka shell necklaces (I always see these at thrift shops too!)
• Mini pom pom trim
• Scissors
• Mini safety pins (not pictured) 

Wrap the trim around the necklace. 

Cut the end when you've gone all the way around.

Use the safety pin to attach the two ends of the trim together, going thru the string of the necklace.

I used all three colors I bought.

I left the fourth necklace alone.

These are perfect for summer over a tank or tee.  The colors are spot on to stand out against neutrals.

They go so cute with the fedora too!
